1 accuses company of negligent security following death of child

While many companies in Georgia and across the nation may implement various measures to promote safety, these measures may do little to no good if left unenforced. Companies who fail to adhere to safety measures run the risk of placing the safety of others at risk in the process. A woman in another state has reportedly filed a lawsuit accusing a company of negligent security after her 9-year-old son was shot and killed at a housing complex.

Incident and lawsuit

According to reports, the incident took place after two individuals became involved in a heated dispute at the housing complex. As the argument raged on, one of the individuals reportedly opened fire in the direction of the other. The bullet proceeded to travel through a fence before hitting and killing a 9-year-old boy who was nearby at the time.

Reports indicate that the child’s mother recently filed a lawsuit against the complex’s security company, accusing it of negligence. The lawsuit asserts that the name of person who fired the shot was on a list of people who were prohibited from setting foot on the property. Despite this, and the fact that the company knew of the man’s involvement in nefarious behavior, the lawsuit states that the company still allowed him to reside in the complex and took no steps to enforce the rules and protect its occupants.

Seeking restitution

The loss of a child is something no family should have to face, especially if it could have been entirely avoidable absent the presence of negligent security. While it might not be possible to change what took place, there may still be options to help surviving loved ones seek restitution. Individuals in Georgia who experience loss under similar scenarios and wish to know more about their available legal options could choose to speak with an attorney for guidance on the next steps to take to seek accountability through the civil justice system.
