Even as technology continues to advance and newer systems of product transfer increase in popularity, commercial vehicles remain a staple on the open road. As many serious or fatal accidents continue to involve the presence of such vehicles, researchers remain vigilant in studying truck accident statistics. A recent study into truck accidents may hold some alarming information suggesting that similar incidents remain on the rise.

The study

According to the study, the number of truck accidents has increased by just over 50% over the past decade alone. Researchers also assert that nearly 130,000 individuals continue to struggle with injuries stemming from a truck accident. The study also asserts that in 2017, truck accidents claimed the lives of more than 4,000 people, which is more than 50% higher than fatality rates in previous years.

The study also asserts that commercial vehicles are involved in nearly 30% of fatal collisions that occur in work zones. Some of the safety hazards highlighted in the study range from the presence of commercial vehicle malfunction to aggressive driving behaviors. Issues with speed and stopping distance were also listed as common factors in truck accidents, as was difficulties maneuvering due to improper load balance.

After a crash

A truck accident can be a disastrous incident that may run a higher risk of placing the safety or lives of those involved in jeopardy. Individuals in Georgia who suffer serious injuries or lose someone close due to the actions of another party may wish to seek restitution in civil court, and they could choose to retain the services of an attorney for assistance in the process. An attorney can evaluate every aspect of the incident and assist a client in preparing to pursue the full amount of restitution to which he or she is entitled to receive.
